I went on vacation to Spain over the summer i wanted to do a test to see how i could use simple methods to scan underwater for an Unreal Engine environment. I used an Iphone 14 inside an underwater dive case and Reality Scan to capture rocks, terrain materials and other components while diving Underwater. Scanning underwater proposes a large amount of obstacles and complexity beyond the usual such as movement of the subject, light conditions at different depths and the physical exhaustion of focusing on capturing images for a scan while holding your breath and swimming at the same time.
I captured a small set of assets such as rocks, ledges and seaweed via the Reality Scan app, took it into blender where i cleaned them up, added seaweed and vegetation to rocks which were scanned separately, and then imported them into Unreal Engine 5 where i put together a small scene.
Other than the Fish and the Urchin which i built from scratch, everything in this environment was scanned at location using Reality Scan.
It was a lot of fun to challenge myself to do a project out of the ordinary to create something unique.
